Setting the stage for online security

We collaborated with Cyber Scotland once again to create a new built-for-TV ad campaign showing older people in Scotland how easy it can be to secure yourself online. Our host asked two contestants various questions about cyber security on the set of our fictional retro game show “Digi Ken?” to better connect with our target audience and show them that being safe online is easier than it seems.

We created three episodes based on the NCSC’s Cyber Aware key actions of choosing strong passwords, 2-step verification and updating your devices. The films encourage users to take these actions to keep themselves, their family and their business secure. Only 26% of adults actively protect themselves online with these safety steps so we brought well-known comedian Fred MacAulay onboard as gameshow host Chip to get the message across in a humourous way.

The films launched during CyberScotland Week which is an annual collaboration between Scottish Government, Cyber and Fraud Centre Scotland and Police Scotland with a programme of events designed to help build cyber resilience.

Building a sustainable set

Our inspiration for the staging focused on the shared cultural experience of our target audience; the UK’s love of gameshows, the bright and colourful sets, the catchy music and sound effects, and memorable contestants and hosts. For this we drew on nostalgia of 80s and 90s game shows (The Price is Right, Blankety Blank, Block Buster) as well as our current love of gameshows (The Chase, Mastermind, etc).

We worked on the set build with ReSet Scenery based in Glasgow who rescue old sets from the stage, screen and events sectors from going to landfill repurposing them as part of new productions. Our set was made of reused pieces from others which we then returned to ReSet ready for them to be used again in future production.
